Walk – IN – INTERVIEW
Walk in Interview for appointment to the following post will be held on 06.05.2026 from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm at the board room, Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna, Ariviyal Nagar, Kilinochchi.
- Post of Research Assistant.
The Research Assistant under the supervision of the Principal Investigator will be responsible for:
- Embedded Systems & Firmware
- Develop and optimise firmware for real-time data acquisition and transmission.
- Implement communication protocols (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) for device connectivity.
- RPM Measurement Module
- Design and implement a wireless RPM sensing module for vehicle integration.
- Ensure accurate synchronisation between RPM and emission data.
- Software & Cloud Integration
- Assist in developing cloud-based dashboards for real-time monitoring and analytics.
- Support API development for data access and integration.
- Testing and Calibration
- Participate in laboratory calibration using standard gases.
- Conduct field testing on multiple vehicle types to validate system performance.
- Prototype Development
- Support fabrication, assembly, and optimisation of the portable device.
- Ensure durability and usability under real-world conditions.
- Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain technical documentation, experimental records, and reports.
- Assist in the preparation of publications, reports, and presentations
- Other Duties
- Perform any additional tasks assigned by the Principal Investigator related to the project.
Required qualifications
The required qualifications and experience are as follows:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (recognised by the UGC)
- MPhil degree or reading MPhil or any Research degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field (recognised by the UGC) will be given preference.
Technical Requirements:
- Knowledge of embedded systems and microcontrollers (e.g., STM32, ESP32)
- Familiarity with sensor integration and IoT systems
- Basic experience in data analysis, cloud platforms, or web dashboards is an added advantage
- Experience in hardware prototyping or automotive systems is an added advantage
- High level of proficiency in written and spoken English
- Strong problem-solving skills and analytical thinking
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research team
- Effective communication skills to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to manage tasks, meet deadlines, and contribute to project deliverables efficiently
- Demonstrated ability to build trust and cooperation within a team environment
Terms and Conditions:
- This is a full-time position. Initially, the contract appointment shall be for 3 months. The position will be renewed for 9 months, subject to performance.
- The monthly salary is based on NSF-approved rates.
- A candidate with an MPhil (or higher qualification) will be paid Rs. 100,000 per month.
- Candidates with Bachelor’s or Master’s qualifications will be compensated at NSF-approved rates (typically Rs. 60,000– 70,000 per month, depending on merit and class).
- Payment will be based on attendance and performance evaluation
- No EPF/ETF or additional allowances will be applicable
- Travel and accommodation expenses for the work-related visits to meet stakeholders will be reimbursed. The researcher should obtain prior written approval for those visits and costs.
