Senior Professor T. Velnampy, Senior Professor of Accounting (Chair), is the current Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka. He holds a PhD from the University of Madras, India, awarded under the Commonwealth Scholarship programme, as well as an MPhil, an MA in Tamil (with Distinction), and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka.
Professor Velnampy has made significant contributions to the fields of accounting, management, organisational behaviour, and strategic leadership through a distinguished academic career spanning more than three decades. He began his academic career as a Lecturer and progressed through the ranks to become a Senior Professor of Accounting.
Over the years, he has held several key administrative positions, including Senior Students’ Counsellor, Head of the Department of Accounting, Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce for three consecutive terms, and Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies from April 2024 to March 2026. In these roles, he played a pivotal role in strengthening academic programmes, promoting research excellence, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across faculties.
Professor Velnampy’s teaching philosophy is grounded primarily in accounting while integrating broader management perspectives. He emphasises analytical thinking, ethical decision-making, and the application of accounting and management principles to address real-world business challenges. He has supervised numerous postgraduate students and contributed significantly to the advancement of accounting and management education in Sri Lanka through curriculum innovation and academic leadership.
He has published extensively in national and international journals and has presented research papers at numerous academic conferences. His research interests include accounting, finance, corporate governance, strategic management, organisational performance, and leadership in higher education.
As Vice-Chancellor, Professor Velnampy continues to lead the University of Jaffna with a vision of enhancing academic excellence, fostering research and innovation, and strengthening community engagement, thereby contributing to the advancement of higher education in Sri Lanka.
