Post of Research Assistant (MPhil)
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Research Assistant in the Department of Physics, University of Jaffna, under the India–Sri Lanka Joint Research Programme 2024, funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Sri Lanka, and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), India.
The selected candidate will be required to register for an MPhil degree in Physics/Materials Science at the University of Jaffna and engage in full-time research on “Explorative, Economic, and Efficient Perovskite Based Energy Harvesting Devices”. The Research Assistant will also be responsible for preparing progress reports and research publications and assisting the Principal Investigator in project-related activities.
Required qualifications:
Applicants should possess one of the following:
- A Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Physics with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
OR
- A Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Chemistry with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
OR
- A Bachelor of Science degree with Physics as a subject and an MSc in Materials Physics.
Prior research experience in Materials Science and /or Perovskite Solar Cells will be an added advantage.
Expected Technical Skills:
The candidate is expected to have knowledge and/or practical experience in:
- Synthesis and fabrication of perovskite materials for solar cell applications.
- Hands-on experience with material characterization techniques.
Priority will be given to those who possess experimental experience in thin-film fabrication and structural, spectroscopic, and electrical characterization.
Remuneration:
The Research Assistant will be paid in accordance with the remuneration rates approved by the National Research Council (NRC).
- Bachelor’s degree with a Class + MSc: 80,000 per month (fixed)
- Bachelor’s degree with a First or Second Upper Class: 70,000 per month (fixed)
- Bachelor’s degree: 60,000 per month (fixed)
