3rd International Research Symposium on Gender Equity and Equality- (IRSGEE 2026) – VIYOMAM 2026

The 3rd International Research Symposium on Gender Equity and Equality (IRSGEE 2026) – VIYOMAM 2026, organized by the Centre for Gender Equity and Equality (CGEE), University of Jaffna, in collaboration with the Department of Christian and Islamic Civilization and the Student Christian Movement of Sri Lanka, was successfully held on 06 August 2026 at the Kailasapathy Auditorium, University of Jaffna.
Under the theme “From Policy to Practice: Making Gender Equity and Equality a Lived Reality,” the symposium brought together academics, researchers, policymakers, practitioners, students, and civil society representatives from Sri Lanka and abroad to discuss contemporary gender issues and practical approaches to advancing gender equality.
The programme featured a keynote address by Senior Professor P. Anuruddhi S. Edirisinghe, four plenary presentations, and a panel discussion on the challenges of translating gender equality policies into practice. The panel brought together experts from higher education, technology, law, media, and economic sectors.
The technical sessions featured 44 researchers and academics and 66 undergraduates, who presented papers and posters across 13 themes, including education, governance, law, media, technology, health, community development, and social justice.
The symposium successfully strengthened interdisciplinary dialogue, research collaboration, and professional networking while reaffirming the shared responsibility of universities, policymakers, civil society, and communities to make gender equity and equality a lived reality.
