Water Security in Northern Province through Participatory Action Research Project (WASPAR)
The University of Jaffna invites applications from qualified candidates for the following position under the Water Security through Participatory Action Research (WASPAR) project at the Centre for Digital Epidemiology (CoDE), Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna.

Temporary Research Assistant-full-time (01 Post)
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in either the Natural Science fields such as Agriculture / Chemistry / Engineering / Geography / Food Science and Technology or in Social Sciences and Humanities or other equivalent qualification from a UGC approved University / Higher Education institution.
- Minimum 02 years post-qualifying experience in water research or in a related field of research or with any form of participatory / community-based social research or other comparable fields.
- High level of proficiency in written and spoken English and Tamil
- High level of IT literacy, especially usage in the areas of Word, Excel, email, and other tools.
- Ability to handle qualitative research methods, statistics, database management, and familiarity with methods within participatory action research practice.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist the Research team in a range of field research activities including the engagement of stakeholders from the public, industry, NGO, and governmental sectors, towards collaboration in participatory action research.
- Actively arrange and implement workshops and deploy other relevant research methods in community group settings, and with government and professional networks.
- Collect, upload and maintain digital records of quantitative and qualitative data, and take part in analysis of such data and in publications.
- Facilitate communication and networking with active participants in Dialogue Forum and Young Water Professionals platforms.
- Assist in the dissemination of research findings.
- Produce and maintain regular Research progress reports in liaison with the Project Coordinator and Team leads
- Maintaining proper financial records for all expenses related to the project.
- Any other relevant duties assigned by the Project Coordinator and Team leads
Remuneration:
- A monthly salary of LKR 60,800/-, will be paid.

Temporary Research Assistant – Part-time (01 Post)
Requirements:
- Requirements are aligned with those of the Research Assistant (Full-time) position.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Duties and responsibilities are similar to those of the Research Assistant (Full-time) position.
Work Commitment:
- Part-time appointees are expected to work a minimum of three (03) days per week from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., totalling at least twelve (12) working days per month. They may select their preferred working days, including weekends, subject to the concurrence of the Principal Investigator.
Remuneration:
- A monthly salary of LKR 30,500/-will be paid.

Temporary Project coordinator-full time (01 post)
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degreein Information Technology, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Geography, Engineering, or related Natural or Social Science fields from a UGC-approved University / Higher Education Institution.
- Minimum of1 year of post-qualifying experience in project coordination, research management, or data/information management in research or development projects.
- Demonstratedproficiency in IT applications, including:
- Microsoft Office Suite(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
- Database management systems
- Webpage development and content updating(e.g., WordPress, HTML, or CMS platforms)
- Digital communication tools(email, online meeting platforms, collaborative tools such as Google Drive or MS Teams)
- High level of proficiency in written and spokenEnglish and Tamil.
- Experience inresearch documentation, data visualization, and report preparation will be an added advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage allresearch and administrative activities of the WASPAR project.
- Develop, maintain, and updatethe project website and digital database, ensuring timely publication and sharing of project information.
- Support thecollection, storage, and analysis of project data (quantitative and qualitative), ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Facilitate communicationand collaboration among stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, academic partners, and community organizations.
- Prepare and submit project progress reports, meeting summaries, and technical documents in coordination with the Project Team.
- Organize and coordinate project eventssuch as seminars, workshops, stakeholder meetings, and field visits.
- Supportpublication and dissemination of research outputs through both print and digital media.
- Maintain properfinancial and administrative records related to project activities.
- Carry outany other duties assigned by the Principal Investigator, or Team Leads as required by the project.
Remuneration:
- A monthly salary of LKR 52,200/- will be paid.
General Notes (Applicable to All Positions)
- Selected candidates will be appointed on a temporary basis. A Temporary Research Assistant will be appointed on a part-time basis, and a Temporary Research Assistant will be appointed on a full-time basis, as mentioned above, for a period of one year. The appointment may be extended based on project requirements and the employee’s performance, at the discretion of the Principal Investigator.
- Applicants must be citizens of Sri Lanka.
- Candidates should demonstrate the ability and willingness to engage in fieldwork in any area within the Northern Province of Sri Lanka.
- Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years of age at the time of appointment.
- The selected candidate will contribute to the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) and the Employee Trust Fund (ETF). The employee is required to contribute 8% of their monthly salary to the EPF, while the employer will contribute 12% to the EPF and 3% to the ETF.
A non-refundable fee of Rs. 100.00 must be paid via bank deposit to the People’s Bank, Account No: 970000090000387, in favor of the Bursar, University of Jaffna. A copy of the bank slip must be attached to the application.
